The team was founded in 2015 and represents the city of Peshawar, the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. The team is owned by Haier Pakistan and Javed Afridi, and the team's home ground is the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. Peshawar Zalmi has won the PSL title once, in 2017. The team is known for its strong fan base and for being one of the most successful teams in the league.

Javed Afridi is a Pakistani businessman who is the owner of Haier Pakistan and the CEO of the Haier Group in Pakistan. He is also the chairman of the Peshawar Zalmi franchise in the Pakistan Super League.

In the 2017 season, Peshawar Zalmi finished the group stage in second place, with six wins and four losses. They advanced to the playoffs, where they defeated Quetta Gladiators in the first eliminator to reach the final. In the final, they faced the Islamabad United team and won by 58 runs, becoming the champions of the 2017 PSL season. The team's captain, Darren Sammy, was named the Player of the Match in the final, and the team's batsman, Kamran Akmal, was named the Player of the Tournament.
